Plein Air Masters
at Studio 2 Saint Michaels
At Studio 2, we believe the most meaningful art begins with a feeling—and grows richer with understanding. We invite you to discover our five nationally recognized plein air artists whose work masterfully captures light, place, and the immediacy of lived experience:
Lyudmila Tomova Clark
Movement & Light
Expressive Force
Lyudmila Tomova Clark approaches landscape, figure, and city scenes with a confident sense of motion. Her brushwork and color convey the weather of a place as much as its physical appearance. That combination of observation and expression has earned sustained recognition: her published record lists more than 130 awards, including 25 first-place honors, and her recent schedule includes respected plein air events across the country. Her work has also received recognition connected with the international Art Renewal Center Salon. This breadth of competitive achievement signals both technical mastery and continued engagement with the national art community.
Manon Sander
Luminous Indulgence
Color Harmony
Light translated into joy: Manon Sander’s contemporary impressionism is luminous, generous, and unmistakably her own. Born in Berlin and based in Florida, she paints the sensation of light through vivid color, rhythmic pattern, and assured brushwork. Sander participates in invitational and juried plein air events nationwide, teaches in the United States and abroad, and has been featured in leading art publications. She has earned signature status with prominent professional organizations, including the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society and the American Society of Marine Artists; current biographies also note signature recognition with the American Impressionist Society and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. Recent honors include recognition at the 2024 Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational and the 2025 Lighthouse Plein Air Festival.
Jeff Steiner
Fluid Expression
Urban Energy
Watercolor with an architect’s eye: Jeff Steiner brings decades of architectural practice to watercolor, but his paintings never feel rigid. He uses structure as a foundation for spontaneity, capturing urban streets, waterfronts, and landscapes through bold strokes and transparent passages of light. After an award-winning career in architecture, Steiner quickly established himself on the plein air circuit: Best Watercolor at Into Nature Plein Air and Best in Show at Plein Air Grand Marais in 2022 were followed by awards at competitions around the country. His 2023 results included first place at Knoxville’s Artists on Location and Artists’ Choice for Best Body of Work at En Plein Air Texas; in 2025, he received Best Body of Work at Plein Air Montana. His record reflects an artist building a distinctive and increasingly visible body of work.
Carla Bosch
Bold Color & Texture
Rhythmic Brushwork
Carla Bosch grew up in Pretoria, South Africa, and brings the clarity and intensity of that color-rich landscape to paintings made across the United States and beyond. Working primarily in acrylic with brush and palette knife, she is known for a fearless, optimistic impressionism. Bosch is an award-winning international artist represented by galleries in the United States, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and France. She is a regular participant in leading American plein air events, an experienced instructor, and was selected for the faculty of Plein Air Live in 2025. Her international collector base and recognizable visual identity give her work a reach that extends well beyond any single region.
Tim Kelly
Narrative Light
Urban Rhythm
Human Stories
Tim Kelly paints city streets and waterfront views with what he calls a reportorial sensibility. A Baltimore native and Maryland Institute College of Art graduate, he began painting outdoors in 2006 after a career spanning illustration and fine art. Kelly’s résumé includes eight Best in Show awards at major plein air events, first place in the plein air category of the Art Renewal Center’s 15th International Salon, participation in the American Masters exhibition at the Salmagundi Club, and a Certificate of Excellence in the International Portrait Competition. His long record at Plein Air Easton—where his paintings have earned Grand Prize, Artists’ Choice, nocturne, architectural, and Maryland-artist honors—makes his work especially resonant for collectors on the Eastern Shore.
